Mark Lacey Charity Evening

Mark's charity evening on behalf of Wirral Heart Beat was a great success and thanks to Mark and his friends, who gave so freely of their time, this event raised over £800.00 for Wirral Heart Beat. Nearly 100 supporters of our charity - and their friends - had a really great evening. So a big THANK YOU to Mark and his friends for their efforts.

Holiday Prize Draw

The draw for this "fund raiser" took place at the Wirral Heart Support Centre on 10 February and we would like to thank everybody who purchased tickets for the "Prize Draw". The holiday was won by Mrs Beattie (of Tranmere). Our prize holiday draw raised nearly £1000.00 to help the work of our Charity.

The money raised from the recent fund raising events mentioned above will enable Wirral Heart Beat to provide 2 Technogym "Exite" 700 Treadmills for use in Wirral Heart Support Centre's Exercise Suite. When installed and commissioned, these "state of the art" treamills will be of direct benefit to the many patients using the Centre's exerccise suite as part of their cardiac rehabilitation programme.

Charity Grants

Thanks to a grant of £44 000 from the Big Lottery Fund and with considerable assistance and co-operation from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, Wirral Heart Beat have opened a new "Outreach" gym at the Wallasey Community Fire Station. Our new "Outreach" is substantially larger than the previous facility and allows ex-patients (who have completed their Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme at the Wirral Heart Support Centre) to continue exercising in greater comfort and safety. The gym is attended by ex-patients who live in the Wallasey, New Brighton, Liscard and Seacombe areas of Wirral.

Apart from the exercise area, our new "Outreach" gym includes a purpose built kitched, toilets/shower facilities and a meeting room.

The "Outreach" gym is also used by St. George's Medical Centre (Wirral PCT) who provide a weekly "obese childrens" programme for local youngsters (and their parents).

Our "Outreach" gym is, of course, extensively used by firefighters based at Wallasey Community Fire Station.

The "official" opening of our new "Outreach" gym took place in July.

If other health charities with objectives similar to those of Wirral Heart Beat are interested in developing the "Outreach" gym scheme in partnership with their local Cardiac Rehabilitation Cenre and/or Fire Service, please contact:

Donations

During the past months, Wirral Heart Beat have donated a range of specialised exercise equipment to Wirral Heart Support Centre for use in the Centre's exercisse suite. In addition, medical equipment has also been purchased and donated to the Cardiovascular Department of Wirral University Training Hospital.

In addition, Wirral Heart Beat is helping to fund the services of a Grade III Exercise Assistant who regularly visits the 7 "Outreach" gyms operated by our Charity. During her visits, this member of Wirral Heart Support Centre's staff, checks the blood pressure of ex-patients using the gym and provides advice of exercise routines, etc.

These donations have been made possible by the hard work and dedication of our Volunteers who organise a wide range of fund raising events, couples with a very generous bequest made to our Charity by a former patient who attended Wirral Heart Support Centre.

Clay Pigeon Shoot

Our annual clay pigeon shoot took place at Stocks Farm, Puddington on the 27th September and attracted a great deal of support from local "shooters" and from beginners. The "Roy Carrington Memorial Trophy" was won by John Sheldon with a core of 80/100 - congratulations John and thanks for your support.

The runner up was Shaun Phillips who won a "Heart Beat" fleece and a bottle of wine.

Thanks to the assistance and support of David Costain (owner of Stocks Farm) and Brian Jardine (of Pro-Matic) the shoot raised nearly £600 for our Charity's fund.

The Three Peaks Challenge Team

Three Peaks Challenge

The "Three Peaks" challenge was undertaken by some of the Heart Support Centre's staff in order to raise funds for "Heart Beat". Their efforts were most successful and as a result raised £2700.00 for our Charity. This money will enable "Heart Beat" to purchase 2 state of the art treadmills (costing over £7000) which will be installed in the Heart Support Centre's Exercise Suite.
